Can you imagine living in a house that you can actually eat ? ha..ha..I know..the house will crumble one day from all the eating 🙂 But, there’s nothing wrong with having fantasy dream like that 😉 If Hollywood makes movies like that, why can’t I dream of living in one right ? 🙂 I dreamed to be an architect since I was a 5 year-old girl. I was so young, but I remember that dream. I was always amazed by skyscrapers since that age. What happened to that dream ? Well, it’s a long story and I won’t bore you with that. Instead I become a Dietitian. My husband said “It’s still architecture…body architecture” (ha..ha…sure…thanks honey!). Almost 14 years ago though, photography swept my feet and I’m in love with it ever since. If there’s only one thing I’m allowed to do in this world (apart from eating 😉 ), it’s taking pictures and I just can’t imagine my life without it. Okay..got carried away….back to the house……
Making a gingerbread house is one of the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always admired this little edible house. Not so much of the eating. In fact, I don’t care much for gingerbread, but I like the idea of decorating it. Fiorina loves the idea of decorating cookies ever since I let her help me with that. So, today was foggy and raining. The weather was just…bleh-I-don’t-want-to-go-out that kind…so, I told Fiorina “Let’s make gingerbread house”. She didn’t know what that was, but she said “yupeeee….” (I love kids for their innocence).
I didn’t make the gingerbread from scratch. I could have I suppose, but this was our first time and I really didn’t want to mess it up and so I got a gingerbread house kit.
Erecting the four walls were easier in the instruction than in reality….lol… I was almost certain that the kit was a bogus and the walls simply wouldn’t erect. Period. But alas, with a little perseverance, this gingerbread house dummy in me was able to get the wall up. Look at Fiorina… the excitement was what I love to see 🙂
I was in charge of piping the royal icing and I let her decorate with the candies. She did a beautiful job and mommy put the roof at a wrong direction on one side, but oh well…whatever…. it’s our creation and there’s no right or wrong.
I can honestly tell you that we had the best time making this gingerbread house. Fiorina couldn’t stop saying “I love it…so cute mommy..so cute…can I eat the candy?”
“It’s cute but you can’t eat the candy or we won’t have enough to decorate the roof”. I felt like a little kid again while making this gingerbread house. So silly right ? but it’s the best feeling ever. Even with Iven dangling on my other leg (literally) while we were making this. Iven is very good at dismembering things at this age and so, I couldn’t let him go near the house…not yet.
TADA…… welcome to our house. I’m so not good at piping the icing..but what the heck…. it’s colorful and tons of fun that matters!!
That peppermint wreath….gosh..the cutest thing ha..ha..!!
Next year we are definitely building a gingerbread house again…perhaps I will make it from scratch..ha! I made gingerbread cookies with lemon icing few years ago, so, I guess, I should attempt next year.
Have you made any or plan to make any gingerbread house ? Share your photo…I’d love to see them 🙂
