stuffed tofu

Stuffed Tofu is very easy to make and one of my favorites side dishes to eat. Hubby asked me the other day if I know how to make them. I’ve never made stuffed tofu before, so, I whipped up some the other day. You will probably ask what’s up with the bird’s eye chili over there on the plate ? Well, the traditional way to eat this is with the bird’s eye chili or you can serve it with any chili sauce, sweet sauce, etc that you like.


1 block of firm/extra firm tofu – cut into 4 equal size and then cut into diagonal so you will have 8 pieces of tofu triangles


150 g ground beef/chicken/pork
2 carrots (skinned and cubes)
1 onion (finely chopped)
1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
1 Tbsp of corn starch (mix with about 1/4 cup of water)
Salt and pepper to taste

Batter for frying (ground all spices):

3.5 oz (100 g) all-purpose flour
3 cloves garlic (grated)
1 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 Cup (125 ml) water
Pinch of salt and pepper


1. Heat some oil in a skillet and saute onion and garlic until fragrant. Add in meat and stir fry until it turns color

2. Add in carrots, pour in some water just enough to cover the carrots and make the carrots tender. Season in salt and pepper

3. Thickened with corn starch solution (stir the mixture before adding in). Cook for 1 minute, turn off heat and set aside and let it cool off before filling

4. Deep fry tofu until brown on both sides

5. When they are cold, scoop out the middle to create a hole for filling. I use a knife to help me cut out, but careful not to poke through the other side

6. Spoon the filling into the tofu

7. Preheat generous amount of oil for deep-frying

8. Prepare the batter mixture by mixing all ingredients together

9. Dip the stuffed tofu into the batter and deep fry until they are golden brown
