French toast is typically made with bread, cinnamon and eggs. Milk or sugar is commonly added. According to what is popular in local cuisine, many of the spices that are added to bread or egg dishes are included in cooking. This versatile dish is often topped with sugar, butter, fruit, syrup, or other items. It is one of my favorite breakfast items to have.
FRENCH TOAST (2 servings)
4 slices of 100% whole wheat bread (you can use white bread, sourdough bread, etc)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp butter
2 eggs
1/8 C milk (I used 1% milk)
1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 C Maple syrup
COOKING METHOD:
1. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and set aside
2. In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat
3. Whisk together cinnamon mixture, eggs, milk, vanilla and pure into a shallow container
4. Dip bread into the egg mixture one at a time. Fry them until golden brown. Serve with maple syrup or honey if you like
