Little man is two years old today. I STILL can’t believe it !! Look at that post-mommy’s milk-face on the photo above…. He was only 2-day old in this photo.
It’s a miracle how this tiny fetus grew into a 2-year old boy. You don’t notice such transformation day to day until you compare the 2-day old baby with the 2-year old toddler! I LOVE this little man to the MAX! I know every mom says that. How can I not! This boy has brought so much tears and joys into my life. He has grown into such a sweet mommy boy. Witty and sweet. I call him a little bandit. His dad said I could have given him a better nickname instead of bandit, but I really can’t think of anything that would fit him better. A bandit that makes me feel so much in love. Now I know what my mom said to me before “You will only understand after you have your own kids”. I couldn’t argue with that! I don’t know how a tiny person can capture your heart like that. It’s truly a gift from God and I can’t thank Him enough for giving me the opportunities to be a mother to two wonderful little people. Sorry…I get a little mushy when it comes to my kids.
I remember almost weaning him off the breast when he was around 6 months old because he wouldn’t stop biting his food source (ME !). But I guess mama is a tough cookie too. We pushed through and now at 2 years I’m still nursing him. I told myself I would wean him when he was 2, but I still can’t bring myself to do that. Just the thought of weaning him off makes my heart feels heavy. I know eventually I’d need to wean him off…part of me still want to treasure this relationship we have. If you breastfed your baby before and did it for beyond one year, you’d probably know what I mean. Night time before putting him to bed, he would say “nen nen” (our nick for breast). It is our special quiet time for 5 minutes.
This year, we decided not to throw a birthday party. We just celebrated at home. Just the four of us. We celebrated few days earlier because Mr. G won’t be around on his actual birth day. Fiorina said “Mommy, maybe we should get balloons for didi (brother in Chinese)”. He sure was having a blast with those balloons.
I thought I could bake a cake on my own this time. I baked a birthday cake before, but never for kid’s birthday. I had all the wonderful ideas on how I wanted the cake to look like, but the more I think about it, I decided I should just kept it simple and made something that the kids will actually eat. Believe it or not, both my kids aren’t crazy about cake. They will only eat the icing but not the cake. I’m not sure why. I swear I didn’t feed them bad-tasting cake before, but they just never really into cake. Perhaps that will change in the future. Iven loves The very hungry caterpillar book by Eric Carle. I guess it must be an AHA moment when the brain made that connection between the Profiteroles I posted few days ago with the caterpillar. So there you have it….
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Profiteroles
Follow the basic recipe on how to make the Profiteroles
The red color was from red yeast rice powder that my mom brought me from Singapore. I scoop up about 2 Tbsp of the dough into a separate bowl and add 1 tsp of the red yeast rice powder. Then I color the rest of the dough with green by adding 1 tsp of matcha (green tea powder) into the dough. You can definitely use other natural colorings or food colorings. The legs were made from chocolate-covered pretzels that I broke in halves and inserted them into the custard fillings.
It doesn’t look as cute as I imagined, but it tasted good and Iven loved the caterpillar
Happy birthday to my mama boy ! Thank you for being part of our lives. May you grow into a wonderful person inside out and blessed with good health. We love you to the pluto and back x infinity.
He said “Mama…capelliar (read: caterpillar). Can I have it…please?”. Quite a talker this one!!
