So after WOW-ing my husband with the tofu steak dish, I decided to surprise him again with this tofu with crunchy toppings. Loaded him up with tofu 🙂 I now have even better reason to welcome tofu back in the fridge in a very consistent basis 😉 My 14-month old enjoys tofu as well. She didn’t initially, but she has now. I’m happy about that because she’s still not much into chicken and meat and I’m trying hard to make sure she gets enough protein from fish, milk, eggs and now tofu.
You will find this tofu with crunchy toppings another super simple recipe. All the crunchy toppings are finely chopped and the dish is served cold. It is such a great contrast in texture, the silky soft tofu with the crunchy bacon and everything else on top. Try it! Give it a chance and give yourself a chance too 🙂 This is also another recipe calls for banno soy sauce
TOFU WITH CRUNCHY TOPPINGS
Ingredients
- 1 lb 5 oz soft/silken tofu
- 3 slices bacon cooked until crisp
- ¼ cup walnuts
- ¼ cup scallions
- ¾ oz fresh ginger minced
- About 1/3 cup mixture of fresh basil and mint shredded
- 2 garlic cloves for making garlic flakes - thinly sliced
- 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil or oil from crisping the bacon
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- Banno soy sauce
Instructions
- To make the garlic flakes, in a small skillet, put in about 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil or the oil dripping from crisping the bacon, when it's hot enough, add in the garlic flakes and lower the heat immediately. Cook until the garlic is crisp and golden brown but not burned
- Drain the tofu and place on a serving plate with some paper towel loosely placed around it to absorb any excess liquid. Put in the refrigerator until ready to serve
- Prepare the toppings by finely chopping the crispy bacon, walnuts, and scallion and mixing with the minced ginger
- When ready to serve, take the tofu and from the refrigerator and remove the paper towel
- Sprinkle the toppings on the tofu and then add the shredded basil and mint leaves, the garlic flakes, and the sesame seeds
- Pour the banno soy sauce carefully around the sides of the tofu, trying not to put too much on top because the crunchy topping will get soggy

That will be her choice in the future, but the convincing won’t come from me. I can’t live without animal protein 😀
are you trying to convince F to go vegetarian?
